1. Ebola: 
With an average fatality rate of about 50% and with a case fatality rate varying from 25% to 90%, Ebola is truly terrifying.

2. Marburg virus:
When the disease first appeared in 1967 in a lab, the mortality rate hovered around 25%. When the disease reappeared between 1998- 2000, that number was above 80%.

3. Smallpox:
Smallpox existed for 3,000 years and was one of the most feared diseases in history. Only in the 20th century, smallpox is believed to have killed 300 million people.

4. Dengue : One of the most devastating diseases affecting the world is Dengue. The deadly infection claims the lives of 50,000 people each year.

5. Hantavirus:
Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome caught the attention of the United States back in 1993 when a healthy young man died of the disease.

6. Meningitis:
Even kissing can spread bacterial meningitis. When not treated immediately meningitis can have a mortality rate as high as 50%.
